Viking Tri-Lobed Brooch – Replica of the Sør-Fron Find (c. 800–850 AD)

In 2012, a remarkable discovery was made in the farmland of Sør-Fron, Norway: a tri-lobed Viking brooch (trefliket spenne) decorated with flowing vine-scroll ornamentation. Dated to around 800–850 AD, it belongs to the very dawn of the Viking Age, when Norse society was only beginning to expand across seas and continents.

Unlike the well-known oval “tortoise” brooches, which have been found in their thousands, tri-lobed brooches are exceedingly rare. Only a limited number are known, and the Sør-Fron example is especially precious — both for its early date and its finely worked decoration.
